Biography

At the end of the year 2004, four young men out of the Black Forest got the idea to found a new band. Tobias Weinreich (bass), Sebastian "AlleyJazz" Scherrer (keyboards) and Simon Schillinger (guitar) were part of the band right from the beginning. Because the Line-Up of the band wasn't yet complete, the band renounced on rehearsals and concentrated on songwriting.

So quite a few songs were created in the first months of existence.

Later on the band decided to add a real accordion-player (Johannes Joseph) to the band because an accordion existed in all of the songs. At this time it was spring 2005. In spite of a missing drummer, all bandmembers wished to play the songs which were written until then. So Finsterforst made their way to a rehearsal room in May 2005.

The research for a real drummer continued to be without success. In summer, the band was thinking of recording some songs, although they had not much prospect of concerts because of the missing drummer. So time went by and in October a rhythm guitarist (David Schuldis) finally joined the band. The motivation for recording at a studio grew stronger and stronger and therefore the IGUANA-STUDIOS in Buchheim (March) were booked for a record of three songs. After some weeks of preparation the band finally managed to spend some days in the studio at the end of December 2005 to record three of their songs.

When in March 2006 the EP "Wiege der Finsternis" had come out, the band started looking for a drummer more intensely. Nothing happened until October when drummer Cornelius Heck aka Wombo joined the band. From now on the band was able to prepare themselves for live gigs, and from the start of 2007 the resin-slurpers of Finsterforst could be seen on various concerts and festivals.

In February/March Finsterforst entered the Iguana Studios again to record their debut album. "Weltenkraft" was released in July 2007 through World Chaos Productions (Japan) and received great feedback.

While performing more and more often live the band was already thinking about plans for a next studio album. According to that the halls of the great Iguana Studios were booked again so that the band recorded the next album during July 2008 and finished the production in September. After some time of research for a new label Finsterforst signed a record deal with the german label Einheit Produktionen. "...zum Tode hin" was released at February the 27th of 2009 and received nothing but perfect feedback from the critics and fans.

During the year 2009 Finsterforst were live on stages of many bigger festivals like Ragnarök, Wolfszeit and Metal Invasion. The band always was a magnet for a huge audience and was a part of the most popular bands. New material for a next album is already composed and the seven men from the Black Forest can't wait to present it on CD as soon as possible.
